A GIANT inflatable truck is bouncing to Hampshire.

The 19m-by-5m pink and blue truck-shaped bouncy obstacle course is the only one of its kind in the UK.

Now it will be heading to a field near you for a new charity day out.

The event – run by husband and wife team Glen and Leanne Attridge – is also a fundraiser for one of Southampton’s most important facilities.

Cash raised on Saturday and Sunday will go towards the neo-natal unit at Southampton hospital.

It’s the latest endeavour for the Blackfield couple who were inspired to raise money for the unit after their daughter Suzanna was treated there ten years ago.

She was born a blue baby and was on a life support machine for a week. Since then Glen and Leanne have supported staff and patients – including delivering 800 Easter eggs to the hospital last year.

Now they are hoping this weekend’s two-day event will become an annual fixture on Hampshire’s summer calendar as well as raising money for the South Coast Smile Charity.

The event will feature more than 65 bikes, trucks and cars for wheels enthusiasts, as well as food and drinks, tombolas and craft stalls.

There will also be prizes for the best vehicle and best truck with trophies donated by Parfitt and Sons in Hythe and prizes handed out by Zac McGregor, 12, who was treated at Southampton hospital after being hit by a car.

Glen, a truck driver himself said: “There’s nothing on the south coast now like this. We wanted to bring the truck because at shows like this there’s not usually anything for the kids. When Suzanna was born the staff at the unit were brilliant. We just want to help out a bit.

“We are hoping to raise £4,500 to pay for a new sensory unit at the hospital.”

The inflatable truck is owned by Ian Lewton - who will be donating some of the proceeds of from the event to the hospital as well.

He said: “It’s for grown-ups well - not just for children. It’s the only bouncy truck in the UK. I’ve been going to truck shows since I was a kid and there’s never anything for the kids to get involved with the vehicles. It’s really quite something.”

The event runs 10am-5pm on Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday at Highbridge Farm, Otterbourne.
