POLICE cordoned off a road after a motorcyclist was 'seriously injured' in a crash.

Salisbury Road in Totton was shut off following the collision, shortly after 4pm yesterday.

A police spokesperson said the crash involved a motorbike and a Ford Mondeo.

They added that a person suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Lorry driver Phillip Long, 62, said he was at work on the Salisbury Road industrial estate when the accident happened.

He said: “I was just sat in the warehouse and heard the motorbike then heard a big bang. I came out to see him lying on the ground in agony.”

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service added: "We received an emergency 999 call at 15.57 yesterday with the caller reporting a collision between a car and a motorcyclist on Salisbury Road, Totton.
"We sent an ambulance and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance emergency response vehicle to the scene.

"The motorcyclist was a 29-year-old male who had sustained serious, but not life-threatening, chest and leg injuries.

"After treatment and stabilisation at the scene he was then taken to University Hospital Southampton."
