NEW facilities are to be installed at a popular park in Eastleigh, after a major cash injection.

As previously reported, Grantham Green has been revamped and is undergoing a transformation.

Now after a successful bid to the Postcode Lottery Trust for £13,281, the park is to have a new picnic bench and wildflowers.

The money will also be used to support the work of Grantham Green Growers, the group set up by Eastleigh Borough & Romsey Mencap.

It will also be used to look after the new ornamental planting bed and a stumpery – a garden feature that uses tree stumps to create niche habitats for shade tolerant plants and other wildlife.

Cllr Paul Bicknell, chair of the Eastleigh Local Area Committee, said: “Grantham Green is making great progress - thanks to the efforts of local residents and groups, such as Eastleigh Borough & Romsey Mencap, working alongside council staff. ”

The picnic tables and benches have been designed in abstract shapes by local artist Andy Frost, based on original ideas from the pupils of Cherbourg and Norwood Primary Schools.

“The new additions to Grantham Green have been welcomed by large sections of the community with many more people using the green than ever before,” councillor Bicknell said.

A rock climbing feature is also set to be installed at the park, following a previous successful funding bid to Aviva Community Fund.
