A SOUTHAMPTON school has threatened to crack down on a gang of youths who broke in and defaced its furniture with racist remarks.

Bosses at Bitterne Park Primary have warned they will prosecute anyone caught trespassing or vandalising school property.

It comes after the school reported a gang of 19 young people smashed glass across the school’s reception and early-years play area.

The school says the vandals also defaced furniture with racist remarks.

But now school bosses believe they’ve “clearly identified” 19 young people involved in the vandalism.

In a statement, the school said: “Recently, more advanced CCTV technology has enabled the school to clearly identify 19 young people who smashed glass across our reception and early-years play space and defaced furniture with racist remarks.

“The decision has been made to contact their schools and colleges and manage this between our respective institutions at this time.

“However, this cannot continue. Therefore as a school, we have taken the decision that any further occurrences of vandalism or trespassing will result in us pressing for a prosecution.

“It is with sadness that we need to take this action and ask our local community for help.

“We therefore kindly request our local residents to think of the safety of all children and call the police if you see anyone trespassing on school property.”

The comments have been backed by city council school chief, Darren Paffey.

Councillor Paffey said: “This type of mindless behaviour must not be allowed to disadvantage the wellbeing and education of pupils at Bitterne Park Primary School.

“We will support the school in any legal action it deems appropriate.”

Hampshire Constabulary were unable to comment.
