THIS year’s music line-up has a fun vibe with a large and diverse mix of acts to appeal to all ages. Here is Hilary Porter’s top ten pick of performances not to be missed:

1 Saturday headliner Lily Allen

Since Lily Allen’s first mainstream single, Smile, reached number one in 2006 she’s been difficult to ignore. After a brief hiatus since the release of her album Sheezus Lily is back with a bang with the release of her new track Trigger Bang and the promise of new album Shame before the end of the summer. Expect some exclusive new songs, mixed in with anthems like LDN, The Fear and Hard Out Here. They’ll hear us singing in the Solent.

2 Sunday headliner Jacksons

They have over 50 years of experience and an endless back catalogue of hits. The Jacksons are the ultimate party starters and promise to deliver a set that chronicles one of the most astonishing careers in music. With original members Jermaine, Tito, Jackie and Marlon this amazing show will include all of their mega-hits - ABC, I Want You Back, I’ll Be There and so many, many more.

3 James

How can we fail to sing along to the hits from Manchester’s enduring rock band James. The band’s best-known singles include Come Home, Sit Down, She’s a Star and Laid along with Born of Frustration, Sound, Waltzing Along and Just Like Fred Astaire.

James’s hit single Come Home was voted the greatest ever Manchester anthem in a radio poll.

4 The Cuban Brothers

The ultimate party band and an unstoppable, infectious force of nature, The Cuban Brothers’ unrivalled funk and soul review blends sexy, soulful music with jaw-dropping b-boy action and riotous comedy. The band’s delirious rhythms, lightning wit, and gentle ribbing of world famous artists has seen them personally chosen to play by Elton John and Robbie Williams.

5 FooR

FooR are a collective of Electronic Dance Music artists, who have been friends since they were kids and who work with some of the biggest names in dance.

6 Sherlocks

The Sherlocks are on the cusp of something truly huge. The boys have the songs, the attitude and judging by their debut album they’ve got the tunes too!

7 Sparks

Sparks are the American pop and rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1972 by brothers Ron and Russell Mael. Expect hit songs including This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us, The Number One Song in Heaven, When I’m With You, and I Predict.

8 New Power Generation

If anyone ever asked Prince who the best band in the world were there was only ever one answer, The New Power Generation. The band backed Prince right up until his final studio album in 2015, helping to write, produce and perform some of the his most innovative work.

9 All Saints

All Saints quickly became one of the most successful pop groups on the planet when they exploded into life in 1996, giving us the perfect pop of singles Never Ever, Bootie Call and the sublime Pure Shores.

10 Boney M

During the '70s Boney M ruled the airwaves, dance floors and charts with a raft of anthems including Rivers of Babylon, Brown Girl in the Ring, Sunny and Daddy Cool to name but a few and we can’t wait for them to take to the stage for the ultimate disco party.
