THE last ball has been bowled at Cheriton Cricket Club, at least for the foreseeable future.
The club in the village near Alresford will not be playing this summer because of a shortage of players.
It issued an appeal for more players in 2016 but it seems without enough success.
A post on the club’s Facebook page said: “In case you were wondering, the sun has set at Cheriton Cricket Club. Not enough members. There is cash in the bank for anyone who wishes to revive the club.
“But the ground is being well maintained. Clubs and private groups are booking it for games. Please contact the groundsman Paul Greenwood to book the ground on 01962 771964.”
