A CYCLIST has been killed in a hit-and-run crash.

The man, from Gosport and in his 50s, was knocked down by a motor vehicle while riding along the A27 at Chichester on Thursday (May 10).

It happened at around 7.20am on the eastbound carriageway of the road, just beyond the Stockbridge roundabout.

Emergency services, including the Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance, were quickly in attendance but were unable to save the cyclist.

Detective Inspector Jason Hazzard, leading an investigation into the incident, said: "It is vital that anyone with information about this collision, or who thinks they may have been involved, comes forward to speak to us. It was a busy time on the road, and we believe there may be several witnesses who have not yet contacted us.

"In particular, we are keen to talk to two men wearing shorts and with tattooed legs who were seen beside a small white van which had stopped nearby."

Anyone with information is asked to report details online or by phoning 101, quoting Operation Redstone.
