A HAMPSHIRE fundraising group has handed over a record amount to good causes.

Romsey Round Table raised £8,000 in 2017 which has been shared among 20 organisations including the Piam Brown children’s cancer ward at Southampton General Hospital and the town’s Community First Responders.

Round Table chairman, John Guest, said: “The cash giveaway was a reminder that in an area as wealthy and prosperous as Romsey, there are many groups supporting disadvantaged and less fortunate families and individuals.

“All the members of the Round Table were genuinely moved by the dedication and passion shown by these volunteers, who we are humbled to be able to support.”

Every the Round Table’s Santa sleigh (pictured above) takes to the streets of Romsey, Ampfield, West Wellow and Chandler’s Ford in the run-up to Christmas and this is the group’s main source of revenue.

However, fundraising was given an extra boost this year by the Round Table Beer Festival held in October which was sold out on both nights.

One of the groups helped by the financial boost is Romsey Family Support Group.

A statement from the group said: The funds will help pay to take the families we support on a wonderful day out in the summer.

“You are great people to have raised this money.”

The Joe Glover Trust, a children’s cancer support charity, said: “Thank you so much for your donation, it will make a huge difference to our charity.”

On top of announcing its record-breaking cash giveaway, the group also said that they are hoping to recruit new members .
