TALENTED youngsters are celebrating after coming top in the regional final at this year’s Rock Challenge.

Pupils at Wellow Primary School were placed first in this year’s ‘be your best’ out of schools across the south

Second place went to Calmore Junior School with their ‘quest for honour’ themed show, based on Jason and the Argonauts search for the golden fleece.

Highfield CofE Primary School were placed fourth for their interpretation of Alone on the Wide Wide Sea by Michael Morpurgo.

Shamblehurst Primary School came first in their heat but weren't placed in the final, while Fair Oak came third in their heat.

Both schools had to give their performances just days before the final after snow earlier in the year

Rock Challenge’s Be Your Best Foundation vice-chair, Ian Readhead, said: “The standard is just tremendous and the amount of work and enthusiasm that’s gone into this... is terrific.”

Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Carl Borg- Neal, and third place prize presenter added: “I’ve been absolutely blown away by the talent of the young people. The dancing, the choreography and the costumes- it’s absolutely amazing!”
