ROADWORKS in a Hampshire village are causing major congestion in the area.

A map published online by the Romanse traffic management system shows all the main roads in Lyndhurst highlighted in red.

Work is taking place on the A35 at Emery Down and repairs are being made to a cattle grid opposite the fire station.

The worst-hit route is the A35 itself, but congestion is also occurring on the Lyndhurst to Cadnam road and and the Lyndhurst to Brockenhurst route.

Lyndhurst is one of Hampshire's biggest bottlenecks - especially in the summer.

Campaigners recently launched a new bid to cut pollution in the village by unveiling banners urging drivers to stuck in stationary traffic to switch off their engines.

Residents say traffic in the village today is worse than normal.

One woman said: "Whenever they do anything on the A35 there are big queues and tempers rise.

"The only solution is a bypass but that's never going to happen."
