A HAMPSHIRE home developers has admitted overcharging residents at a complex in Romsey.

Aster Group, which runs Wakeford Court in the market town, has been incorrectly charged for their telecare services 'for eight years'.

One resident said the costs for the service total £1,000 each year, and that at least 14 members of the building have been affected.

The housing group said it would be talking to the customers who have been charged wrongly, but did not disclose the total amount in costs that residents had been overcharged by.

Telecare is a service that provides an alarm system for those who require support and assistance in their home using information and communication technology that sends a signal.

Though Aster say it was raised in 2014, resident Peter Penrose said it goes back to 2010.

An Aster Group spokesperson said: "We have found that a small number of our customers have had incorrect charges applied for the telecare services they have received.

"We will be talking individually to each one of these customers to resolve any issues of under or over payment."

Eighty-one-year-old resident Peter, said he was 'disgusted' with the charging that is 'in the thousands'.

He said: "This has been going on for far too long and excuses keep being made.

"I can count at least 14 residents who still live in the court now and did when Aster took over in 2010.

"It's about £1,000 each year, and I say this has been going on for eight years since they took over.

"I always refused to pay a penny for it, because I knew it was wrong."

In correspondence to one resident, an Aster employee said the company was 'very sorry about the situation' and that 'to make it right', they would contact individual customers.
