A POPULAR fish-and-chip shop has celebrated a major milestone.

Henry’s Fish & Chips has celebrated its 30th birthday and it is hoping to serve the Hedge End community for another 30 years at least.

The shop was opened by Shane Lee in 1988.

The 53-year-old moved to Hedge End in 1988 to start his business.

He opened the shop with his wife Beverly and now runs four fish-and-chip shops across the borough, helped by his four children and seven grandchildren.

He said he is very pleased to have celebrated such a milestone. And added: “I can’t believe how quickly the time’s gone. I want to thank my family and all the customers.”

Throughout the past three decades, Shane has also raised £10,000 for the Fisherman’s Mission, £1,000 for the Countess Mountbatten Hospice and donated £1,000 to Hedge End Rangers mini soccer team.

“It’s my way to give something back to the local community. They have supported me and I want to support them, and I hope I will be able to support them for at least 30 more years.”

When asked what is the secret of his success, Shane said: “Our success is down to using the highest quality products, friendly staff and a clean environment. We rely on repeat trade and customers only come again if what we serve tastes great.”Shane’s other fish-and-chip shops are in Hedge End, West End and Fair Oak.
