A NEW homes plan could devastate an entire village, residents and councillors have warned.

It comes after plans for 82 new homes in Funtley near Fareham has been unveiled this week by Reside Developments who are looking to build the new homes to the north and south of Funtley Road in Fareham.

Under the plans, which form part of Fareham Borough Councils local plan for housing, the development will consist of a mixture of two, three and four bedroom homes, of which a proportion would be self-build and affordable.

Alongside this, there would also be green space in the form of a village green and a small community park to the back of the development as well as space for a new 250sqm community building capable of incorporating

a local shop.

Dean Anscombe, from the Funtley Village Society, who are opposed to the development added that the council had broken promises.

He added: "Fareham Borough Council assured Funtley residents that if 6,000 homes at Welborne were developed then there would be no further major development in Funtley.

"Surface water on Funtley Road freezes in cold weather and is prone to black ice.

"As a result, there have been numerous vehicle accidents along this stretch of road due to black ice and flooding and it will not be long before there is a fatal crash here too."

Fareham North councillor Pamela Bryant said: “It's ludicrous that these homes have been included in the draft local plan.

"It is the last remaining plot of countryside in Funtley”.

Fellow Fareham North councillor Louise Clubley also feared that the highways infrastructure would not be able to cope adding that there had been four serious accidents in the last ten years on Funtley Road.

One resident, who lives on Funtley Road and didn't want to be named, said: "These plans could completely devastate Funtley, not just by adding more traffic but making the village more prone to flooding."

The plans will be determined by Fareham Borough Council later this year.
