FIREFIGHTERS rescued two adults and two children from a fire in Southampton today.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the blaze in Swaythling in the early hours of this morning.

Crews were called to the fire in a first floor flat above a shop in High Road at about 3.51am this morning.

Two fire pumps from St Mary’s and one from Eastleigh attended the incident and rescued the four people and a dog from the flat.

They were taken to Southampton General Hospital for a check up.

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said the cause of the fire was not known but it was under investigation by fire service investigators and Hampshire Police.
