YORK paving slabs which could be worth as much as £10,000 were stolen from a garden in Hampshire, police have reported.

Officers say some 100 square metres of York stone was stolen from a garden in East Worldham, near Alton.

According to the police, good quality York stone is valued at about £100 per square metre.

Officers believe the group of thieves struck in an overnight raid, sometime between Thursday, January 11 and Friday, January 12.

They say the slabs would have had to have been loaded onto a vehicle by several people to enable a theft of this scale.

These stones were laid in place when by the owner’s great grandmother who was living there in about 1917, over 100 years ago.

Police are asking for information, including if anyone has been offered or seen the stones for sale.
