HIGH tides are causing flooding in coastal areas of Southampton and Hampshire and alerts have been issued for the county.

A man has been rescued from his car on Shore Road, Hythe, by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service at about midday today.

A woman was also rescued from her car in Beaulieu at about 1pm as high tide hit the village.

A video shows flooding in Warsash following the high tide at about midday today.

Pictures from further south show that rising water has spilled onto the shore in Lymington, and there are reports that water has risen over High Street in Beaulieu.

Hampshire Rural Police wrote on social media: "Visiting our colleagues on the Isle of Wight to discuss rural and wildlife issues.

"Think we may be delayed getting on the Wight Link Ferry due to high tide.

"Captain has said highest tide he has seen in 12 years."

There are flood alerts in place for significant areas of the county's coast, as well as at Riverside Park and Mansbridge Park in Southampton.

An alert for Lymington says: "Environment Agency tidal defence gates from Keyhaven to Lymington will be closed three hours either side of time of high water.

"At Town Quay Lymington, near the Ship Inn pub, water may leak through the defence gates flooding parking areas.

"Environment Agency staff will be on site to pump water back over the defence wall to protect property.

"At Saltgrass Lane, Keyhaven the road will flood and cars should not park there."
