AMONG the cases heard at Southampton Magistrates’ Court were:

JAMES MALCOLM KNOWLER, 37, of no fixed address. Pleaded guilty to using to one count of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress and two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause that person to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used or to provoke the immediate use of unlawful violence by him whereby that person was likely to believe that such violence would be used, or it was likely that such violence would be provoked. Given a 20-week prison sentence and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115.

CONNER JAMES BRACKSTONE, 21, of Hinkler Road, Thornhill, Southampton. Pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order, damaging a Black Ford Fiesta and two counts of causing harassment, alarm or distress by using threatening, abusive or insulting words or disorderly behaviour. Given a 30-week prison sentence and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115.

GARETH ROY GEORGE CROSS, 41, of Holyrood House, Orchard Lane, Southampton. Pleaded guilty to assault by beating, fraud by returning a jacket that was not purchased, failing to surrender to custody at West Hampshire Magistrates Court and possessing a bladed article in a public place. Given a 17-week prison sentence. Also ordered to pay compensation of £300, a victim surcharge of £115 and costs of £85.

WAYNE DANIEL CULL, 38, of no fixed address. Pleaded guilty to stealing nine joints of meat worth £54 from Iceland, committing an offence whilst on 6 months conditional discharge and failing to keep to supervision requirements following release from prison. Given a 22-week prison sentence. Also ordered to pay compensation of £54 and a victim surcharge of £115.

SAMUEL ROBERT HUDD, 37, of Northam Road, Southampton. Pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drugs and without insurance. Given a community order and required to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. Also disqualified from driving for 20 months ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and costs of £85.

TREW DAVID JAMES WARWICK, 25, of Defender Road, Southampton. Pleaded guilty to stealing three bottles of perfume worth £97.99. Given a 14-day prison sentence suspended for 12 months and banned from entering any Boots store in the UK for 12 months. Also ordered to pay costs of £85.

KEVIN JAMES SHEARS, 32, of Paignton Road, Southampton. Pleaded guilty to stealing a large quantity of Fenjal bathroom products worth £264 from A.R Pharmacy in Totton. Ordered to pay £264.73 in compensation, a victim surcharge of £85 and costs of £85. Also given a curfew which orders Shears to stay in his property for two weeks between 7pm and 7am as well as being banned from entering A.R Pharmacy in Totton for 12 months.

MICHAEL EDWARD SIMS, 49, of Birchglade, Calmore. Pleaded guilty to drink driving. Fined £650 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £65 and costs of £85. Also disqualified from driving for 20 months.
