PARISHIONERS from two Alresford churches have raised several thousand pounds to help build a new Anglican church in an south-east Asian country.

St John’s Church in Alresford and All Saints in nearby Bighton raised over £15,000 to help build a new church building in Sittwe province in Myanmar (formerly Burma).

The decision to raise the money was made after the Rev Amanda Grant, then Curate at St. John’s , made a visit to St. Andrew’s Church in the Myanmar province back in 2014.

With construction now complete, Hefin and Peter Tudor, from St. John’s church, travelled to the city of Yangon in Myanmar last month to present a plaque for the new building commemorating the achievements of the Anglican Church in the country.

The plaque, made by St.John’s parishioner, John Mackrell, was received by the Archbishop of Myanmar’s wife, Mrs Stephen Than Mynt Oo in the absence of the archbishop, who was abroad at the time.
