IT IS the Hampshire pub with a view.

The Jolly Sailor on Lands End Road in Bursledon is said to attract dozens of tourists every year not just for its traditional food and cosy atmosphere but also for its view on the River Hamble.

Located in a building built in 1700s, the pub was also the set of the BBC series Howards' Way in 1980s.

Pub manager Georgia Guest, 25, from Fareham, said dozens of tourists visit the pub every year and enjoy the view while sipping a pint.

“ We want to keep that historical and cosy atmosphere. Customers come for the view and we want to give them great hospitality and fresh food”, she said.

And added: “ It’s essential our customers feel at home and we want customers to experience a family feeling.”

The pub is owned by the Dorset-based brewery Hall and Woodhouse and aims to offer customers fresh food every day by sourcing ingredients locally.

While the menu changes seasonally, fish and chips remain the dish preferred by adults and children.

“ The menu changes and it gives us the chance to match the weather and use the ingredients available. It’s important to provide fresh food. It definitely makes a difference”, Ms Guest said.

More vegan and vegetarian dishes are also set to be introduced, while customers can already enjoy a wide selection of drinks including ales, lagers, white, red and rose wine.

Ms Guest said that the ales Tanglefoot and Fursty Ferret produced by Hall and Woodhouse are the ones that clients like the most.

She also said that neither live music events nor quiz nights are held at the pub.

“ We don’t really need live music or to organise events during the week. People come here to enjoy the atmosphere and relax. We want to give residents a place where they can relax, enjoy good food and meet up with friends,” Ms Guest added.

The pub is also dog friendly and the furry visitors are given the chance to enjoy dog biscuits.

“The dogs are part of the families and we want to welcome families as a whole. Our customers’s dogs become our regulars too.”
