CHILDREN from across Hampshire were trained how to lead inclusive sports activities at a special event.

The Dare to Believe Inclusion Festival at Testwood School saw 120 youngsters from schools across Totton, Christchurch and Romsey get together for a day of learning and fun.

Supported by the Youth Sports Trust it saw former GB Paralympic swimmer Kate Grey hand over her expertise to the young sports leaders from The Grange School, Testwood School and Mountbatten School, who then passed on their knowledge by leading activities including boccia, Seated Volleyball, Goalball and blindfold running.

School Games Organiser James Cross said: "It was amazing. We had volunteers from Allianz as well. They learned about perseverance, having a can do attitude and also it was a good opportunity to have fun in the sports environment. And Kate was incredible - the children were very interested to hear what she had to say".

And he added that because there is still funding left over from the event, he'd like to get pupils from other schools involved as well.

The pupils taking part had some form of special educational need or disability, or were brought along to develop their confidence or sports participation.
