THOUSANDS of voters in a Hampshire village will go to the polls tomorrow.

Voters in Stubbington will elect a replacement councillor for 28 year old Chris Wood who resigned his seat suddenly in September due to a conflict of interest with a taxi firm.

Until deputy mayor Chris Wood's defection from UKIP to the Tories in November 2016, Stubbington was one of the only seats in the borough not to be held by the Conservatives.

At the 2014 election UKIP won convincingly with 1,227 votes (43.4 per cent) ahead of the Conservatives 841 and the Liberal Democrats 646 votes.

The other Stubbington seat on the council is held by UKIP's Carolyn Heneghan.

The candidates are:

Jim Forrest (Lib Dem) 70, from Stubbington who formerly held the seat for 10 years before losing it to UKIP in 2014.

Jim said: "Stubbington is under threat of over-development because of the Tories’ failure to deliver the local plan.

“Our residents need a strong local figure to fight their case and I believe they will want to put their trust again in a party with a long record of service and loyalty to the area.”
