EASTLEIGH crashed to a fourth defeat in five games – against the National League’s bottom club.

Solihull Moors arrived at the Silverlake with one point from their previous eight National League games.

But buoyed by their first win under new manager Richard Money at Ossett Town in the FA Cup last week, they stunned the Spitfires with their first National League victory for seven weeks.

Goals in each half from Solihull’s exciting forwards, Jermaine Hylton and Olodapo Afolayan, who was being watched by Swansea and Leicester earlier this year, gave the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Ben Williamson pulled one back with his seventh of the season, but Solihull defied their league placing to hold on.

Eastleigh trailed at half-time to Hylton’s fourth-minute opener.

The Spitfires had twice gone close through Danny Holland and Ben Williamson, both narrowly missing the target from distance.

A bumper 2,577 crowd had taken advantage of free admission, but Eastleigh’s defence proved to be as generous as Stewart Donald.

Former Swindon striker Hylton dinked the opener over the exposed Ross Flitney after intercepting Cresswell’s headed back pass.

Solihull could easily have led by more at the break.

Hylton was always a threat as was Olodapo, who turned sharply on the edge of the area before firing into the sidenetting.

Cresswell hit the post from a McSheffrey corner and Constable was denied by a stunning save from Nick Townsend before dragging another shot wide.

But Solihull continued to make a mockery of their league position.

Hylton soon had another good chance. After seizing on a through ball he rounded Flitney only to be denied by Ayo Obileye.

Solihull midfielder Darren Carter burst past two challenges before shooting straight at Flitney, who kept our a right-footed curler after more tricks from Afolayan, who soon embarked on another exciting run only to be denied by an excellent challenge from Miley.

Cresswell had the chance to level in first half-injury time, only to smash a loose ball wide from inside the area.

Two goals in as many minutes gave the second half the spark it needed.

Oladapo doubled the visitors’ lead in the 56th minute. Put through down the left, his pace and trickery opened up the opportunity and he fired into the far corner past Flitney’s despairing dive.

Williamson stabbed in from six yards following McCallum’s flick on.

Oladapo missed the target after a wayward Green pass left Flitney exposed.

Mark Yeates’ pace and down the left and Obileye and Constable’s deliveries from the right also gave the Spitfires hope.

But Solihull soon went close to restoring their two-goal lead.

Flitney did well to save from sub Richard Brodie after failing to keep hold of a cross that skidded across the penalty area towards the end of a second half played in persistent drizzle.

Another excellent Townsend save kept out Eastleigh, whose optimistic appeals for a late penalty were waved when sub Chris Zebroski went down during five minutes of injury time.
