AFC TOTTON manager Louis Langdown has demanded a response from his players following their shock Hampshire FA Senior Cup exit at Romsey Town.

Despite twice equalising through midfielder Charlie Gunson, the Stags lost the second round tie 5-4 on penalties following a 2-2 draw at the Bypass Ground.

Winners of the HSC in 2010 and 2011, Totton are now aiming to bounce back at Larkhall Athletic tomorrow.

Langdown said: “We made five changes to our team from the previous Saturday but, no disrespect to Romsey, we would have beaten them 99 times out of 100.

“Our players are a little bit spoilt with the facilities at Totton, they thought they could just turn up and roll them over but we didn’t do enough.

“The game was devoid of any real quality.

“We’re better than that and have been all season.

“We’ve been getting a lot of compliments for the way we’ve been playing in the league.

“Credit to Romsey, they huffed and puffed and that, but our players let themselves and the club down on Tuesday.”

The eight-placed Stags are now preparing for two Evo-Stik South West games in four days.

They host North Leigh on Tuesday, following tomorrow’s (Saturday, 3pm) trip to Somerset to face a Larkhall side that is yet to win at home this season.

“It’s good when games come thick and fast, we’ll be looking for a response at Larkhall before kicking on on Tuesday,” continued Langdown.

The Stags will be back to full strength again tomorrow with on-loan duo Alfy Whittingham (Havant & Waterlooville) and Jack Barker (Aldershot) back after being ineligible for the cup defeat at Romsey.

“The five who were left out at Romsey (Nathaniel Sherborne, Ian Oliver, Connor York, Whittingham and Barker) will come back in,” added Langdown, who is hoping to sign a new player before the weekend.

“It’s good to have the youth team to supplement the first team but, without a reserve team, we’re light when we get injuries,” he explained.

*AFC Totton’s home game with Paulton Rovers, which was originally set for Saturday, September 30, will now take place at The Total Branding Community Stadium on Tuesday, October 31 with a 7.45pm kick off.
