IT IS the family pub which aims to give residents a chance to relax.

The King Rufus, in Chandler’s Ford, is run by James and Kathryn Longhurst who work to satisfy everyone in their community.

James, 38, the pub’s deputy general manager, from Chandler’s Ford, said: “It’s the community that makes a pub. We want customers to come here and feel relaxed and enjoy their experience in a friendly location. We do whatever we can do to ensure the customer gets a great experience.”

The pub offers several different menus tailored to all ages.

“We noticed that some of our elderly customers weren’t finishing their meals because they were too big so we created a menu just for them.”

Customers can also choose to have vegan or vegetarian meals and those with allergies have the chance to try gluten-free dishes and a gluten-free beer.

“Lots of different people are coming in and it’s important to tailor the menu to every customer. We aim to do our best,” James said.

However, he confirmed that traditional fish and chips is still the best-seller while the youngsters like to create their own burger, picking their favourite ingredients.

Children can also enjoy the play area in the garden, watch their favourite cartoons on TV and colour in while waiting for their meal.

Those who want a fine dining experience can book seats to enjoy a special menu on the last Saturday of every month.

“We want to give residents the chance to experience a special dinner,” James said.

The garden is one of the main attractions with activities for families to enjoy, such as live music, bouncy castles and face-painting for the youngest.

The pub is also dog-friendly. James said: “Dogs are a big part of families nowadays and we understand that people don’t want to leave their dogs at home.”

Customers can also choose between a wide selection of drinks which includes ales, cider, wine, gin, rum and whisky.

A ‘spicy night’ is run every Wednesday while every Thursday is steak night.
