REVIEW: Mike Osman: Trumped, Mayflower Theatre
DESPITE Southampton’s very own President parody claiming he was banning the press, I managed to sneak in for a look at Mike Osman’s brilliant take on Donald Trump.
The funnyman was in outrageous form, declaring he’d build a wall along the M27 and involving Southampton mayor Cllr Les Harris in an unrepeatable but hysterical sketch ahead of the supposed visit to the city of the leader of the free world.
Community choir Sing Now Choir and Rufus Stone and Strapped For Cash frontman Malc Eyers, a former Millbrook schoolfriend of Mike, had warmed a very animated crowd up for this fun-filled spoof.
The first act ended with a bang as a puppet Trump careered across the stage onboard a rocket crashing headlong into a Kim Jong Un lookalike, just after the conclusion of the laugh out loud How Do You Solve a Problem Like Korea?
Mike was back for more mischief after the break, bringing a host of new impersonations and old favourites. There was everything from Boris Johnson to Nigel Farage and Peter Kay to Michael McIntyre. We enjoyed lots of football related fun and legendary Saints boss Lawrie McMenemy was involved in a spoof game of Send To All with some of the illustrious contact s in his phone book from his seat in the audience.
