REVIEW: Anything Goes
Peter Symonds College
Theatre Royal, Winchester
Director/Musical Director Peter Hedley has overseen a production of beautifully arranged, played and sung numbers doing full justice to the familiar Cole Porter tunes.
This frothy and beguiling show got better and better as the night went on. Its pleasingly designed set was put to good use. There were some lovely costumes, good use of lighting and some well choreographed big musical numbers.
With a strong cast, who gave it their all, this also was a showcase for some charismatic and wonderfully comic turns. Robbie Mcallister made use of his height to effect, making a gangly, slightly bumbling and loveable Lord Evelyn Oakleigh: his The gypsy in me pretty much brought the house down. Owen White equally made his mark as Moonface Martin. At the centre was Sasha Davis who shone in the role of Reno, lighting up the stage whenever she appeared.
