Wizard of Oz, BMT Productions, The Regent Centre, Christchurch
This is glorious endearing entertainment: knowing the restrictions of the venue, the use of graphics, scenery, lighting, sound and costume were superb backdrops to equally superb performances from all the cast members. It was almost as if a professional touring production had landed there such was attention to detail, (rust on tin man, dialogue, diction, pace, flying) Director David Sandham has put class into this RSC version. The leads were all superlative, inhabiting their roles with ease and conviction, vocally at ease with the familiar material yet confident enough not to imitate. James Stead led a pitch perfect orchestra matching James Dixon-Box's energetic and well drilled choreography. A real "Wizard" of a show and very highly recommended.
