ALFRED on the Road to England: A Fun Day Play for Wessex Day is showing tomorrow at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Portswood.

This is a debut play for both the writer, Dr. Merv Rowlinson, and the cast, The Wessex Wanderers. The age span is from under 11 to over 70 years of age, mostly with limited acting experience. However, they are all are committed to revelling in this fascinating history, one that shares many parallels with current events, including Brexit!

The play aims for comedy, at least in places, but is not irreverent to the past and will offer an ode to Alfred and his greatness whilst sketching out what it was like to be in his farmers’ army.

All are welcome. Refreshments supplied.
