BLACK Men Walking, a play based on a real-life walking group in the Peak District, is heading to The Salberg.
Thomas, Matthew and Richard walk. They walk on the first Saturday of every month.
Walking and talking.
But this walk… maybe they should have cancelled, but they needed the walk today. Out in the Peaks they find themselves forced to walk backwards through two thousand years before they can more forwards.
Written by rapper Testament for Eclipse Theatre, Black Men Walking explores black British history using as inspiration the real-life walking group formed in Sheffield to walk the Peak District. The production is directed by Dawn Walton, founder of Eclipse, who heard about the group and was also inspired by Septimius Severus, a black Roman Emperor.
Black Men Walking is the first national tour born out of Revolution Mix, a three-year movement that will spearhead the largest ever national delivery of black British productions in regional theatres. Salisbury Playhouse is a partner in Revolution Mix.
Black Men Walking runs in The Salberg, Salisbury from Wednesday to Saturday April 21.
