DANCE circus company Motionhouse head to Theatre Royal Winchester this weekend with their new electrifying multi-media production Charge that explores themes of energy.

Charge uses the company’s renowned fusion of thrilling dance-circus, enthralling digital imagery and extraordinary set design to create a world onstage ranging in scale from the planetary to the microscopic.

Breath-taking choreography and a gripping narrative bring to life stories about the power of the sun, the Earth’s weather systems, how energy works in our own bodies and humans as energy manipulators. The unique set creates an extraordinary world on stage where dancers and digital imagery interact seamlessly.

Motionhouse’s Artistic Director, Kevin Finnan MBE, who was Choreographer and Movement Director of the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, is at the helm of the project, working closely with the company and an established creative team to bring his vision for Charge to life. Charge is the third element of Finnan’s Earth Trilogy’ developing on themes explored in Scattered (2009) and Broken (2013) about our relationship with water and the Earth.

Motionhouse worked with science partner Professor Frances Ashcroft and her team from the University of Oxford on the role of electricity in the human body to support the creative and choreographic process, putting science at the heart of artistic practice.

“Charge is an incredible collaboration between artists and scientists,” said Kevin Finnan. “Bringing multiple disciplines together to create one piece of work is really exciting for me. I find the science behind the show fascinating and I want to use my inspiration from this to create a show for audiences to enjoy – but which also makes them think and feel about the role energy plays in our lives.”

Charge will be at Theatre Royal Winchester tonight and tomorrow. Tickets from theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or 01962 840 440.
