TAKE ON THE ROYAL NAVY'S SUMMER OMELETTE CHALLENGE AT PORTSMOUTH HISTORIC DOCKYARD

Regular viewers of BBC One's Saturday Kitchen will know just how hard it is to make a three-egg omelette, with celebrities and top chefs taking on the timed challenge each week. There's no need to wait for Saturdays this summer though, as the Royal Navy Catering Corps will be offering a chance for visitors to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard to have a go themselves on Mondays and Thursdays throughout August.

In the shadow of HMS Victory, members of the public will be invited to take to the hobs and whip up their own three-egg omelette in the fastest time possible. Chefs from the Royal Navy will be on hand to judge the efforts and those cooked to a suitable standard will have their times added to a leader board, with prizes for the best cooks.

The omelette challenge is one of many free events taking place at the dockyard over the summer holidays, with a packed schedule that ranges from craft activities for under-fives to historical treasures, tattoo designing, film screenings and even prosthetic wounds.

Entry to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard costs from £31 per adult for a Full Navy Ticket including access to the sites 11 attractions. Under 16s go free during the summer holidays and tickets are valid for multiple entries throughout the year. Book online at www.historicdockyard.co.uk
