A DARING rescue mission behind enemy lines in the lawless Helmand Province of Afghanistan is the subject of the next talk at a Test Valley Museum on Thursday 7 June.

The talk entitled The Jugroom Fort Rescue Mission, which takes place at the Museum of Army Flying in Middle Wallop, is by Ed Macy, who was one of the pilots in action on that mission.

Two Distinguished Flying Crosses (DFCs) were awarded to Army Air Corps (AAC) pilots for bravery in the air during the operation.

Below them, Ed was one of two AAC pilots awarded the Military Cross for bravery on the ground, the first awarded in AAC history.

In this lecture Ed will recount the story of how two Apaches flying with Royal Marines on the stub wings ending up on the ground inside a Taliban fort. They were in a race against time to save a dying marine who had been shot and left behind with no hope of being recovered. Ed will use exclusive declassified images and Apache video footage to transport the audience deep into the action on mission which broke all the rules.

A curry supper is available from the Museum of Flying's Apache Cafe team from 6pm (vegetarian meal also offered).

Curry suppers are limited to 60, so book now to avoid disappointment.

Tickets to the lecture, which starts at 7pm, are available from www.armyflying.com/events or by calling 01264 784421.
