THEY are known as the ‘powerhouse’ of British indie-rock.

Now, The Libertines, who recently released their third album Anthems For Doomed Youth will headline next year’s Friday night opening party at Victorious festival in Portsmouth.

Veteran indie rockers Kaiser Chiefs, renowned for their energetic live sets as well as their UK number one single Ruby, will also headline the Friday night stage along with alternative rock act Shed Seven and classic Britpop band Lightening Seeds.

Andy Marsh, festival director said: “Our Friday night opening party was such a hit last year it made sense to do it again but make it even better.

“We’ve gone for a solid line-up of absolute indie legends, it’s going to be a brilliant night.”

“We’re going to announce the full weekend bill very shortly – and it’s going to be spectacular – but we couldn’t wait to reveal Friday, it’s going to be some party!”

Councillor Donna Jones, leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: “The line-up for Victorious this year is fantastic, the event will create 2,000 jobs and brings £10m into the economy every year; it really will put the south coast on the map.”

Victorious festival will take place on Friday, August 25 and Sunday, August 27, 2018, with early bird tickets on sale at victoriousfestival.co.uk.
