SOUTH Coast indie-pop band The Manatees are headlining at The Loft tonight.

The band have taken another huge step forward in recent months with the release of their new single Milan, ahead of their tour.

A tangible buzz surrounds the band – made up of Jay Harris (vocals, guitar), Tyler Bloor (guitar), James Miller (bass) and James Brearley (drums) – following the word-of-mouth success of their youthfully nostalgic early EP releases Avoiding Glances and Young Hearts, with fans resonating to their compelling lyrical reflections of teenage adolescence and young love.

This has led to plays on Radio X and Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Music Show, sold out shows at the iconic Joiners and Heartbreakers venue in Southampton and being added to Spotify’s Hot New Bands playlist (the band have over 250k streams on Spotify alone).

Milan was recorded with engineer Dan Cox at Urchin studios in East London, capturing the youthful verve and infectious catchiness of the song that is already generating spontaneous audience singalongs at their sold-out shows.

The track is an immersive and lustful evocation of the complications that face young love whilst alluding to better times travelling Europe.

With interest mounting in the young indie-pop outfit from BBC Introducing Solent, The Manatees are emerging as one of the most exciting acts to come from the South Coast in recent years.
