HAMPSHIRE, comes under the spotlight with the release of a new song Ozone by RedLIPZ - inspired by the stunning views across the Solent from Stokes Bay in Gosport.

It’s been produced by Manfred Mann RnB veteran, Mike Hugg, with former Radio Solent presenter, Gethyn Jones.

Both Mike, who was credited as co-writer of the Manfred Mann's early hits and contributed solo compositions throughout its life including jazzy instrumentals, Bare Hugg, and wistful acid-pop and Funniest Gig, and Gethyn share a love of their hometown of Gosport and came together to produce the song with Amba Tremain, another Gosport resident, taking the lead vocal.

Mike is still playing keyboard and touring with The Manfreds – a reformed version of the 1960s' band without Manfred Mann.

They cut their musical teeth at The Concorde Club when it was situated in Bassett.

The band had a string of top twenty singles, including 5-4-3-2-1 (which Mike co-wrote), Do Wah Diddy Diddy, Mighty Quinn, My Name Is Jack, Semi-Detached Suburban Mr James and many others.

Mike composed the theme tune to The Likely Lads, the much-loved BBC TV show and composed and recorded the music for the motion picture, Up The Junction.

Gethyn, who wrote Ozone, is a former presenter on BBC Radio Solent – having joined the station shortly after it opened.

He stayed with the station for nearly 25 years.

Gethyn maintained his love of composing music and – with Mike’s brother Brian and their cousin Nick Hug – he co-wrote a string of TV theme tunes that were broadcast regionally, nationally and around the world. Titles included Runaround (ITV), Hey Look That’s Me (BBC) and Day By Day (Southern TV), among many more.
