THERE’S a fair bit for people to drink about in June – with the Queen’s birthday and the start of Euro 2016.

And the creators of Winchester Cocktail Festival are hoping people will be celebrating in style by taking part in the Ginchester Fete.

Cabinet Rooms are inviting people to join them in celebrating the start of a festival of football in France and the Queen’s birthday on June 11.

Ginchester, which celebrates all things gin, will be held at Winchester’s historic City Mill and will also coincide with the eighth annual World Gin Day.

Gary Whiter, co-founder of Cabinet Rooms, explained, “Winchester is a quaint city with a voracious appetite for gin so we wanted to mark World Gin Day this year with a fun, tongue-in-cheek gin event that would appeal to both the city’s sense of humour and sophisticated palate.

“We like to think of Winchester as being the south’s capital of gin, a vision that has been perfectly captured in the wonderful Ginchester scene, created by our sponsors, Park Corner.

“It is really sparking the imagination of the region’s gin lovers, whom we hope will join us for a bit of a royal knees up on World Gin Day.

"Work is underway with our other sponsors, Winchester Distillery and Fever-Tree, to make this event Hampshire’s most unique celebration of gin in 2016.”

Some of the gin related activities on offer on the day include the chance to have your fortune read at the Green Man tent, sample local gins by distillery Twisted Nose, a tombola, a Bombay Sapphire raffle, and refreshments.

Paul Bowler, founder of Winchester Distillery, added, “The people of Hampshire are really starting to make a name for themselves as connoisseurs of fine gin and it is with great pleasure for the Winchester Distillery, producers of the local Twisted Nose tipple, to be joining the Cabinet Rooms for a full day’s celebration of this truly British spirit.”
