WINCHESTER is set to get some festive cheer as the Christmas lights will be switched on tonight.

A local hero will switch on the lights, with the event starting at 4pm in The Broadway. Lights will be switched on around 6pm. 

Sarah Davis, Winchester BID’s projects and operations manager, said: “We are delighted to be coordinating the switch on festivities for another year. This is a fun-filled family community event that brings together the entire city. It is also the perfect opportunity to shine the spotlight on local community heroes, which is why we will be searching for well-deserving local people to help switch on the lights.

“On the night, we will be encouraging the public to get involved on social media too, to tag their photos and posts with #FestiveWinch and #WinchLights so we can repost and share the fun.”

It will be hosted by Heart Radio’s Jonny Meah. Performing will be Pilgrims’ School Chamber Choir, The Spitfire Sisters, Harestock Primary School, Integr8 Dance, Theatre Royal, Rock Choir, Winchester A Capella, Winchester University Buskers Society and Body Translation Dance.

There will be also be Giant Inflatable Snow Globe installed in The Square from 2pm – 8pm, along with will be located outside Pitcher & Piano.

Independent market stalls will also line the Lower High Street, with a variety on offer.
