A WEALTH of events took place across the Commonwealth in 2002 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne.

Despite the deaths of her mother and sister earlier in the year, celebrations still took place and the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh travelled for a year, covering more than 40,000 miles, to attend them.

Hampshire held a plethora of street parties in June, each packed with revellers waving their union jacks and munching on their jubilee cake with pride.
