THE Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Susan Bayford made an official visit to the world’s leading manufacturer of underwater robotic vehicles, Saab Seaeye.

During her visit the Mayor, accompanied by her husband and consort Alderman Brian Bayford, talked to some of the many people in different departments across the company.

On her tour, the Mayor discovered that nearly 90 per centof Saab Seaeye’s robotic vehicles are exported and sold in 70 countries.

Councillor Bayford also met Saab Seaeye’s managing director, Jon Robertson, who explained the company’s aim to be the employer of choice for the best best engineers and the importance of developing skills in an environment of technological excellence.

Saab Seaeye have a strong outreach programme with schools, colleges and universities to encourage the next generation of engineers into the world of underwater robotic systems that will include advanced technologies including artificial intelligence.

As well as hearing more about the company’s apprentice scheme and the Mayor hears about the company's work in the community, including the Rainbow Centre, for which Councillor Bayford in an ambassador.
